(Not Quite Series #5)
by Catherine Bybee
Montlake Romance, Contemporary
With true love, there’s no such thing as a safe distance.
Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It’s both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.
At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?

Not Quite Perfect
by Catherine Bybee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
NOT QUITE PERFECT a brilliant addition to Catherine Bybee’s Not Quite series. This fifth book brings back Mary Kildare, the best friend of romance author, Dakota who is now married to Walt and expecting their first child. We are also reintroduced to Glen Fairchild, Trent’s older brother who is also a pilot for their family’s chartering company.
Mary and Glen couldn’t be more opposite. Glen comes from a wealthy background, a loving, close-knit family, and has enjoyed a playboy lifestyle without apology. Mary on the other hand was abandoned as an infant and raised in an orphanage by nuns. She has serious trust issues due to her abandonment. Aside from Dakota and Mary Frances, one of the nuns who raised her, she has very few close friends. She is a licensed therapist who enjoys helping others, but doesn’t really believe there’s a happily ever after in her future.
Glenn and Mary met and really hit it off about a year ago, but neither took that next step. They see each other again when their mutual family and friends are gathered at the hospital to await the birth of Walt and Dakota’s baby. The attraction is just as strong as it had been before and this time Glenn isn’t ready to let Mary go so easily. Mary isn’t as convinced they are a great idea, but Glen goes the extra mile to win Mary over. There are definitely perks to being the owner of a private plane chartering company. I believe Ms. Bybee has written the most romantic first date I’ve ever read. Glen may have been a playboy, but he’s fallen hard for Mary, and doesn’t let a little thing like living on opposite coasts stop him from trying to prove to her how serious he is about her, effectively breaking down all her doubts about love. *sigh*
As usual Ms. Bybee provides romance, suspense, danger, hot sexy scenes, laugh out loud moments, characters you can’t help but root for, a great storyline that keeps you guessing, and witty dialogue. I love her books and she is a must-read author for me. Not Quite Perfect… was simply perfect. 4 stars
