Jennifer Chance is back with another novel that’ll keep you hooked.
Anna Richardson meets the baddest (and sexiest) of bad boys in FAKE IT, the second novel in Jennifer Chance’s sizzling Rule Breakers series continues, Jennifer Chance sparks some serious combustion between a sexy biker and a corporate go-getter who’s ready to let her hair down. This one is not to be missed, especially if you’re looking for a bad boy fix!
New grad Anna Richardson works hard—so hard that she’s given up having a romantic life. Anna has even convinced her friends that she’s dating an amazing guy—who they’ve simply never met. But now Anna has a wedding to attend and needs to produce the hottie she’s been lying about for the past six months. Enter Jake Flynn, her infuriating, motorcycle-riding, jaw-droppingly gorgeous neighbor, who’s more than willing to fake it for a weekend. In fact, Jake won’t be satisfied until things get real.
Though Jake is only playing the role of adoring boyfriend, he’s starting to feel the heat, and judging by Anna’s sweet blush, so is she. Letting chemistry this intense go to waste would be a real shame. Soon, though, the thin line between fantasy and reality fades. Jake may not be what every buttoned-up fast-tracker wants, but he’s sure as hell what Anna needs. And if she takes a ride with him, their adventure never has to end.
EXCERPT – He was a Fake and She was a liar:
“Where in God’s name did you get this dress?” he asked. “It’s absolutely perfect on you.”
“You like it?” Anna didn’t care that the question was stupid, she just wanted to hear Jake say more of these wonderful things to her, to believe all of this was real, if only for tonight.
“I love it,” Jake replied with feeling. “But that’s not going to stop me from pulling it off of you later. Kiss me,” Jake urged her. He bent his head down and Anna stretched up, deliberately dragging her body up his. Jake groaned and she snatched the sound from his lips as their mouths connected. His lips were sensually soft. They moved against hers with rhythmic power as he buried a hand in her hair, gathering it tightly as he crushed her against him. Jake surrounded her with his long, hard body, his powerful arms. His legs pressed against her thighs as she lost herself in the kiss. Gasping for breath, her tongue slid forward and met his. Electricity shot through her, fusing them together.
The power she felt in that moment almost undid her. It was heady, pulsing, and it sizzled in her fingertips as they lay on Jake’s hard, shuddering body. She tilted her head to the side, her eyes now on his lips, as if savoring the thought of them, aching to taste them again. Then Jake’s left hand left the small of her back, and shifted downward, his kiss intensifying even as small whorls of delicious panic started skittering along Anna’s nerves. He started pulling the fabric of her dress again, scrunching it in his fingers, but this time he didn’t stop until its hem cleared her upper thighs, and then there was only his hand against her skin as he slid it beneath the fluttery skirt. Anna froze, paralyzed by the reaction of her body to his hand on her thigh, so close to everything that was going wild with heat and panic, his fingers splayed against the edge of her silk thong, tracing the edge.
“Nice,” Jake breathed, and Anna moaned as his hand cupped the roundness of her bottom again. The feel of his rough palm against her sensitive skin crowded out any other thoughts. He began stroking her, the rhythm adding to the crescendo thrumming inside her belly. Anna’s heart began to race, the pounding of her pulse keeping time with the crashing need she felt. She put both of her hands on Jake’s face, branding his mouth with hers, pressing hard into him as he swelled against her, his breath growing ragged.
“Jake,” she gasped, not knowing how to say it, not knowing how to ask him for what she wanted, what she craved so deeply that it seemed to redefine her being. The aching desire came from her body, yes, but also from her brain, her heart, her nerves—everything. She felt as if this was the one opportunity to make everything happen perfectly, and she dared not miss this chance. It created a need so powerful she wanted to cry, to call out, to shred his clothes with her fingers—anything so that he wouldn’t stop. “Please … I want … please,” she moaned, and he gripped her tightly to him, grazing her face, her jaw, the dip of her collarbone with his mouth, his kisses becoming more urgent.
“I will, Anna,” he said, speaking the words like an oath. He met her gaze then, and the war between them raged for a few seconds more. What was it she saw in his eyes … and what was she betraying with her own? This wasn’t actually a thing between them. It couldn’t be. He was a fake and she was a liar, and this perfect night was nothing more than an illusion. She knew it, he knew it, they both knew it. So what was happening here?

Jennifer Chance’s debut novel, Rock It, featuring Lacey and Dante totally blew me away. I immediately added her to my list of must-read authors. I have been eagerly waiting for FAKE IT, the second book in the Rule Breakers series, about Lacey’s workaholic friend, Anna Richardson and their hot neighbor, Jake Flynn. Finally it’s out and I am happy to say I was not a bit disappointed! It was such a great read I didn’t mind one bit that I lost sleep finishing it. Lol. Anna and Jake were completely worth it!!
Anna is a great character I couldn’t help but cheer on. She had some rough years at home as a teenager and has made it her mission in life for neither her or her mother to ever be in that situation again. With all that ambition she doesn’t have a lot of time to give to a relationship. She thought she’d found the perfect guy in her coworker, Todd. He was handsome, as driven as her, successful, and they worked well together. He told her she was his perfect number two right up until he took a position on the opposite coast and dumped her, saying a long distance relationship was too hard and he wanted to be able to explore his options. To save face and hold off her matchmaking friends she invents a sexy and successful new boyfriend, Dave. This works fairly well until she’s expected to bring the new guy along with her to her best friend from college’s wedding. Not ready to admit she’s been lying for the past six months she enlists her roommates to help her find a guy willing to fake being in a relationship with her in exchange for a weekend at the beach. Problem being, she’s waited to the last minute and is pretty desperate to find someone who can live up to the paragon she’s invented.
Jake Flynn is Anna’s tall, dark and sexy new neighbor who’s had her full attention ever since he moved in. He’s had a starring role in her fantasies even though he’s not at all her usual type. He rides a motorcycle, spends his days working on them and is a live for the moment kind of guy. Hot as hell, but bad boy through and through. So even when Jake volunteers to be Anna’s “Dave” she’s not so sure he can pull off the corporate type she’s described to her friends, and even if he can, she’s not so sure she can resist falling for him. He’s definitely too dangerous to her peace of mind.
Jake has been having some fantasies of his own and jumps at the chance to spend a weekend in close quarters with Anna. A temporary arrangement is fine by him because he’s not the settling down kind of guy. Jake went through some rough times of his own and doesn’t think he can ever offer the stability and security a woman like Anna needs. He doesn’t think she’d want anything to do with him if she knew his past, but he’s more than willing to help the beautiful and curvy Anna unwind and enjoy some good times in the present together.
These two are definitely a case of opposites attracting and filling in the parts missing in the other. Their sexual attraction has been accumulating for six months and let me tell you it explodes!! They are so into each other they have no problem convincing Anna’s friends that what’s going on between them is real. No, their problem is they fall hard and fast, can’t keep their hands off each other, can’t imagine their life without the other once the weekend is over. but don’t know how to work past their differences. Jake is free-spirited and lives for the day while Anna is uptight and sacrifices today in order to secure her future. Ms. Chance does a fabulous job of drawing the reader into the heart of her characters and their plight. She does it with wit, great dialogue, well-developed and likable characters, and a writing style that is comfortable to read while we settle in for her entertaining story.
My only issue was the age of the characters. They seemed too mature, not so much in their life experience, but in the way they handled themselves to be as young as they were. Jake seemed too comfortable in his own skin, knew himself too well, and behaved in ways that didn’t sit right with me to attribute them to a twenty-four year old man. I felt the same about Anna at twenty-three and all she’d accomplished, but not quite to the same degrees as Jake. IMHO these two seemed at least in their late twenties. Every time their young age was mentioned it threw me, but not so much that I didn’t love it from beginning to end! 4 stars
