SYNOPSIS:
There is a spy in S&D systems who is leaking top-secret information that could lead to extreme disaster. It’s up to Shane Gallagher to uncover the mole and set things right.
To Trust…
Rockfort Security operative Shane Gallagher has been brought into S&D Systems to find a security leak. Confidential information has been stolen, and Shane suspects Elena Reyes, a systems analyst with the access and know-how to pull it off. As he finds excuses to get close to her, their attraction is too strong to ignore, but how can Shane trust the very woman he’s investigating?
Or Not to Trust
Elena has spent her life proving herself, but now she’s risking it all: everything she’s worked for, and her growing feelings for Shane. Much as she wants to trust the devastatingly sexy, hard-as-nails investigator, she can’t let herself fall for him…the stakes are too high.
Systems analyst Elena Reyes had no intention of stealing company secrets until her brother’s life was threatened by the cruelest of mobsters. When Elena finally confesses her deeds to Shane, he’s ready to do everything he can to keep her out of danger.
EXCERPT:
Elena had never thought about seducIng a man. She wasn’t even sure of her moves. But she knew that Shane wanted her, even if he wasn’t prepared to admit it. She also knew he felt protective of her, which was probably part of the conflict he must be feeling.
Before he could come up with another objection, she cupped the back of his head with her hands and brought his face down as she raised her own head toward him.
She hadn’t been sure what would happen. Or perhaps she’d been afraid that he’d wrench himself away from her. But the danger must have affected his emotions as well as her own. When their lips met, it was as though someone had tossed a match into a pile of gasoline- soaked kindling. Invisible flames rose as heat flared between them.
She heard him growl her name and felt him gather her closer as he kissed her with purpose, running his hands up and down her back.
The heat coming off him made her dizzy. She should be afraid, but she kept kissing him, letting him feel all the passion that she’d held inside herself for so long.
Opening her lips, she invited him to explore her mouth, then did the same with him, absorbing his taste and the way the mouth-to-mouth contact sent shock waves to every part of her body.
“You know that you’re playing with fire?” he asked.
“I know what I want.”
“Then take off your clothes.”
Again, a dose of reality. Was she ready to get undressed in front of him? Or was she going to back away—the way he hoped she would.
She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of scaring her off. Not because she was trying to score any points, but because what she wanted hadn’t changed, even if he was trying to make her take a step back.
She did step back, but only a few feet. She kept her gaze on him as she reached for the hem of the T-shirt and pulled it over her head, then let it drop on the floor so that she stood before him naked to the waist.

MY REVIEW:
Rebecca York’s BETRAYED, the second book in the Rockfort Security series, was a thrill ride from beginning to end. Fast-paced, action-packed, with a hot, handsome, hero and a very likeable heroine, and seemingly no end to the bad guys! I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down!
Shane Gallagher is one of the partners at Rockfort Security and has been hired by S&D, a software development company, to work undercover as Head of Security and find out who has stolen company secrets and retrieve them. As a former Army Ranger Shane is rugged and well-skilled in black-ops, tracking criminals, rescuing hostages, in essence taking risks and putting his life on the line to save others. He proves this right from the beginning when he dangles from a rope on the eighth floor of a building to come crashing through a window, save the hostages, and take out the disgruntled former employee. This initial move pretty much sets the pace for the rest of the book.
Elena Reyes is a systems analyst at S&D and at the top of Shane’s suspect list. She has the skill set and the opportunity to steal the confidential information from the company, but she is a straight arrow, with strong and extremely conservative family ties, and someone who never takes risks. As an immigrant to this country she has been taught to keep her head down and not bring attention to herself. Yet, to save the lives of her fellow workers she helps Shane save her and the other hostages, putting herself in the media spotlight. And in the sights of the crime boss after S&D’s secret program.
Alessandro Reyes is Elena’s older brother who can do no wrong in their parents eyes. He never had the same need or drive to work hard to better himself and have a better life that Elena had and instead prefers the easy route to fast cash. Despite his parents his morals, friends, and choices have always been questionable. When he is set up to get himself in over his head by the crime boss who wants S&D’s secrets he puts pressure on Elena to find where they are hidden, retrieve them and bring them to him to trade for his life. Creating a moral dilemma for Elena, placing front in center in a web of lies and danger, and running to Shane for help.
During the months Shane has been at S&D he and Elena have developed a strong and mutual attraction. One that neither of them is willing to pursue. One reason being Shane is investigating Elena. After the hostage situation brings them closer, he finally decides to act on his feelings, give Elena the benefit of the doubt and asks her out to dinner. Timing being what it must be in a romantic suspense, this is also pretty the same time all hell breaks loose and her brother’s life is threatened and he puts pressure on her to do the unthinkable. In order to protect the woman he has fallen hard for, who also may be the culprit he’s been looking for, Shane goes on the run with Elena.
Ms. York’s plot is filled with plot twists, a hero and a heroine who can’t make up their minds if they can trust one another, and no safe place or safe allies, save Shane’s partners at Rockfort Security, and a developing love between Shane and Elena. Even though you pretty much know who the bad guy is from the beginning there are still no small amount of secrets and surprises when it comes to allegiances or who the good guys and bad guys really are. Definitely a very enjoyable page turner! 4 stars
