For New York Kings’ first baseman SCOTT HARPER, scoring women is easy. He’s ready to get naked anytime, anywhere. But when a hacker leaks his nude selfies, he’s unprepared for the scrutiny his full-frontals receive.

CARRIE MCKENZIE has a love-hate relationship with her body. No longer the fat chick guys can ignore, she wins the job as the Kings’ clubhouse reporter. With her svelte new figure, she nabs an exclusive interview with Scott to get his take on the scandal.

However, the two are already on a first-name basis after Scott came on to her in the hotel bar, and she woke up in his arms. The problem is that Scott doesn’t do relationships and Carrie doesn’t date jocks, yet the way they burn up the sheets is deserving of more than just a one-night stand.

Scott shows Carrie that he has a sweet, caring side beneath all the swagger. But can she really trust her heart to the biggest player in the game?

My review of PERFECT GAME by Collette West!

Another one hit out of the park by Collette West! I’ve kept up with her books since Night Games, her first New York Kings release, and have to say the stories just keep getting better. Perfect Game was amazing from beginning to end. I was busy when I first started reading it and had to keep putting it down. That was driving me nuts because I was really caught up in the story and hated having to wait to read more. I can’t say enough how much I LOVED this book! LOVED Scott! He is solidly at the top of my list of favorite New York Kings players!!

Deliciously hot and sexy SCOTT might have started off as a notorious bad boy, but right away CW lets you in on the real Scott Harper. He was a man with solid integrity. He might not have always made the best decisions, but he owned them. He took responsibility for his actions and didn’t try to blame others. In the first chapter I could tell at heart he was a good man and I was 100% Team Scott. I liked how sweet he was and how he made the extra effort to show Carrie, in words and deed, how serious he was about her. He knew his reputation and how it could effect their relationship if he didn’t keep her feeling secure about his devotion to her. LOVED that. I felt his character was well developed and consistent in his actions. Was he perfect, of course not, but he wised up really fast when he made mistakes and did what he had to do to keep his girl! And speaking of knowing what to do to keep his girl, the man had moves!! Their times in the bedroom, etc, were well written, steamy and descriptive without being overly graphic, yet important to have been there as much as they were since sex is portrayed as an integral part of Scott’s character.

I really liked CARRIE too. I admired her as a heroine. She might have been wealthy and grown up with privilege, but she was very real, down to earth and definitely relatable. I admittedly have similar body type issues as her and felt that Collette nailed the conflicting emotions of wanting to be comfortable in your own skin and accept the body God gave you, and yet resenting the unwanted and many times inappropriate reactions you get from men and from women, AND she had to do this in the public eye. I felt the way she was written Carrie handled this with grace and style. I also liked how much she believed in Scott and didn’t let his reputation get in the way of how she saw him, that she gave him the benefit of the doubt and went to him directly when she was feeling insecure. I also liked that right from the beginning, despite her intense attraction to Scott, she saw right through him and didn’t put up with any crap. She made him walk the line and prove himself to her. And that when he did, she stood by him regardless of pressure from her family.

To me, Perfect Game was all about the romance between Scott and Carrie, with a strong parallel baseball story. It was about Scott falling hard for the beautiful girl who was like none he’d ever known before and being man enough not to run away from his feelings like many “players” would do. I’ll admit it, Scott stole my heart in the first chapters and pretty much had me swooning throughout the whole story. Definitely book boyfriend material. And I really liked the bat kissing, it was fun and illustrated how superstitious athletes can be in a lighthearted way. Along with pursuing Carrie, Scott’s in pursuit of a major record, which could have felt contrived, but didn’t because of how well it was written. Instead it added to the substance of the story, as long as the reader keeps in mind this is a work of fiction.

Overall, I love Collette’s writing style. Loved the alternating POV’s. It was smooth and easy to read, easy to get caught up in and difficult to put down. The pacing of the story was perfect and flows well. I felt it was well developed and the organization very interesting. Basically, it was wonderful. Just as it is. I have no hesitation giving it a ☆☆☆☆☆ star rating! Hell, I wanted to start back at the beginning and read it again as soon as I finished it the first time.

AUTHOR BIO:

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette’s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers.
