Carly Phillips is one of my favorite authors and when she announced her latest release DARE TO SURRENDER would be part of the Dare to Love series and the multi-author Invitation to Eden series I just knew it was going to be a wonderful read.

Gabriel Dare is a cousin to both Ian Dare from Dare to Love and Alex Dare from Dare to Desire. Much like his cousins, Gabriel Dare is a handsome, domineering alpha male and extremely sexy. Even though he has his choice of women he never gets emotionally attached to them and won’t keep them around if they start to become attached to him. He has no problem with a woman being with him for his money as long as his needs are met. He’s an extremely wealthy and powerful businessman whose focus is to work very hard to give his brother and sister, whom he loves unconditionally, an easy life.

Isabelle Masters is the only woman who has ever been different. From the moment Gabriel met Isabelle the attraction to each other has been intense and mutual. The only thing keeping either of them from acting on it was that Isabelle is Lance’s kept girlfriend. Even then, Gabe has possessive, yet protective, nurturing, caretaking tendencies toward her when his usual schtick is to be overbearing and controlling. He knew Isabelle was the one he wanted and just waited until she was free. Even his brother and sister recognize right away he’s in trouble with Isabelle.

Despite his natural tendencies to always get his own way, he recognized Isabelle needed to learn to trust him and see that he was the real deal, unlike the slick, cheating Lance who didn’t appreciate what he had. Isabelle is an elegantly, beautiful young woman, but she hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to men or life in general. Her self-esteem has suffered for it. When Isabelle finally finds out Lance is not who she thinks he is, she walks out. Walks out with nothing but the clothes on her back. She is strong and determined, but it took that push for her to want find herself again. When Gabe comes to her rescue and makes his desires known she is every bit as attracted to Gabe as he is to her, but she is not about to put herself at the mercy of another domineering man even if he does make her want to melt with just a look. Isabelle feels she needs to prove to herself she is capable of taking care of herself and establish her independence.

Carly has crafted an intriguing story of two people attracted to each other, but at conflicting places in their life, which keeps them apart for awhile. That is until Gabe’s patience is gone and he devises a plan to get her back in his life. He issues her an Invitation to Eden, or rather his sister does. Dare to Surrender has it’s share of passion, sexy times, and even light BDSM, but it does not overtake the story. And of course, as every great fictional love story does, it ends with our couple prepared to live their HEA. 3.5 stars
